BIRCH & FERN
Hi, My name’s Jess, you might already know me from jesssoperphotography.com where I work as a wedding photographer. But it was photographing families that really started my career. As a mother of two wild boys I’ve always felt so lucky to be able to document so much of their lives growing up. Now those photos feel indispensable. I can’t explain how happy it makes me to be able to create family photos for you too. I love being able to capture photos that reflect your family at it’s heart, all the mess, the love the fun.
I love being outside, we’re always camping, swimming in rivers, dancing at festivals or off finding a new adventure. This year we all went backpacking through India and Asia (that’s us on a terrifying bridge in India!)
So let’s go on an adventure and create some great photos for you all.
Let’s capture all those honest, candid, emotional photos in the most beautiful way.
I can’t wait to hear from you!
Natural, Creative Family Photography
I found my passion for photography when I had my two boys. Capturing those moments became so important to me. Childhood is so fleeting. Those early years just seem to slip pass like grains of sand through your fingertips. I wanted to remember it all. The smiles, the silly faces, the way they laughed, the food all over their faces and the characters they created from their dressing up box. Every little moment seems so precious and my heart already aches for all those years gone by.
White backdrops and studio shoots seemed so alien to me. I can’t even imagine getting my kids in one of those places let alone it reflecting our lives. How many pictures like that do you see of people? And lets face it they could be anyone, swap out the heads and replace it with another family. To me there’s no depth and soul to those photos and that’s what I want to capture for you. The real moments, the real emotions. The things that make you feel.
So how do you create those genuine photos? We basically go have fun! Whether it’s at home or in an great outdoor spot we just get to all hang out and let the kids run riot. There’s no ordering them to smile or creating moments that aren’t you. And although you’ll come away with a few lovely group photos mostly we’ll be doing whatever the kids want to do.
Of course if you’re after photos of your baby then we might take a slightly different tactic but the focus is still very much on enjoying yourself and getting real moments and emotions that show your family story.
I want these photos to mean something to you in years to come but to also be beautiful enough that you can put them on your walls. Little works of art that tell the true story of your family.
